Trudy, baby care advisor and mum
As an advisor, I talk to mums and mums-to-be with a wide range of needs. Some find it helps to just talk and share their experiences, others need a second opinion, more detailed information or just the reassurance that they are doing the right thing. Whatever mums need, we’re here to help.

My top tips
- When it comes to labour you just have to try and relax and go with the flow! If things don’t go according to plan it doesn’t matter. Just be guided by your midwife and once your baby is in your arms nothing else matters. Everyone is scared of how painful it will be. I was prepared to have everything going but was pleasantly surprised I didn’t need it.
- Be prepared for frequent feeding with a newborn as babies have tiny tummies. It doesn’t mean you have a hungry baby.
- Even the most contented babies cry sometimes! It’s their only way of communicating with you. If you stay as calm as possible you gradually start to ‘tune in’ to those cries and work out what your baby wants.
About me
My labour with my second baby was so quick I thought I might give birth in a traffic jam! I got stuck in the school run and when I got to the hospital it only took two pushes before we had a lovely son.
Like most children, my two are very active. They love playing games and are always on the go. Because they’re using up so much energy, I always make sure I’ve got some snacks handy when we’re out and about.
